Yes! And they are!
I'm so glad you asked, too. My first experience with a blood orange was in Akka, and I was completely surprised -- I hadn't seen one before. I was there for a Youth Year of Service, documenting some garden decorations around Bahji, and back at the gardener's shed behind the gardens, someone offered me a blood orange. It was so good! The offerer explained that it was from a tree that 'Abdu'l-Baha had planted near the Shrine of Baha'u'llah! I was so surprised!
It was a great orange -- fresh, juicy, sweet, and a lovely mixture of orange and ruby. And I have since learned that you shouldn't try to duplicate such experiences. A few years ago I bought another one at a grocery store in New England, and it was not nearly as exciting -- it had been in a truck for quite a while, I think.
So thank you, 'Abdu'l-Baha, for planting that tree! It is a great inspiration.
